About
Biography
Zizi Mustafa was an Egyptian dancer and actress who became particularly visible during the 1970s and early 1980s. She was part of the generation that worked in Cairo after the great cinematic Golden Era but while professional Raqs Sharqi still maintained a powerful presence in nightlife and popular entertainment. Mustafa was a leading dancer at major venues, including Sahara City, and performed during the same period as artists such as Nagwa Fouad and Fifi Abdou. She also appeared in Egyptian films, giving her career a screen component alongside her live stage work. Her movement reflects the more dynamic and nightclub-oriented Egyptian aesthetic that emerged during the second half of the twentieth century. Zizi Mustafa died in Cairo in 2008, leaving behind film and performance footage that remains valuable for students of Egyptian dance history.
