Nadia Gamal

Nadia Gamal was born in Alexandria and became one of the most important dancers connecting the Egyptian and Lebanese performance worlds. Her mother introduced her to dance and performance at an early age. She developed a highly theatrical vocabulary enriched by ballet, Latin dance and other movement traditions while maintaining a strong Oriental foundation. Much of her major professional career was built in Lebanon, where she became a celebrated stage performer. Her work influenced later perceptions of Lebanese Oriental dance and helped expand the international theatrical possibilities of Raqs Sharqi.
