About
Biography
Ibrahim “Bobby” Farrah was one of the most influential figures in the development of Middle Eastern dance in the United States. Based in New York City, he became known not only as a performer but also as a choreographer, master teacher and serious researcher of Arab dance traditions. His teaching attracted generations of dancers and helped establish a more structured and culturally informed approach to Oriental dance in America. Farrah also founded and edited *Arabesque* magazine, which became an important source of information about Middle Eastern dance, music and culture before the internet era. His theatrical productions elevated Oriental dance beyond restaurant and nightclub entertainment and presented it in major concert venues. His extensive archive is now preserved by the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts, confirming his lasting historical significance.
