Hekmet Fahmy

Hekmet Fahmy was one of Egypt's major professional dancers before and during the early Golden Era. By the late 1920s she was already associated with Badia Masabni's entertainment world and became a highly sought-after performer. She combined nightclub performance with an acting career and appeared in Egyptian films during the 1930s and 1940s. Her career illustrates the close connection between cabaret, theatre and the developing Egyptian film industry. She therefore represents an important bridge between the pre-cinematic dance world and the stars who later defined Golden Era Raqs Sharqi.
