Yousry Sharif

Yousry Sharif grew up in Cairo and was exposed to Egyptian dance and music from childhood. His training eventually incorporated Egyptian folklore alongside ballet, jazz and other theatrical movement traditions. After relocating to New York, he became one of the most influential Egyptian teachers in the American Oriental dance community. He founded a training environment through which many professional dancers developed sophisticated Egyptian technique and musical interpretation. His decades of teaching make him an important figure in the transmission of Egyptian dance knowledge outside Egypt.
