Biography
Yasmina of Cairo is a British-born dancer whose relationship with Egyptian dance extends across more than four decades. She began serious study in the 1980s with teachers and musicians including Suraya Hilal and Hossam Ramzy before working professionally in London's Arab nightlife. In 1995 she moved to Cairo, where she eventually performed for nearly a decade with her own orchestra and built a major professional career. Yasmina has lived and worked in Egypt for more than twenty-five years, giving her extensive experience of the local performance industry and its changing artistic environment. She later became an international teacher, music producer, photographer and filmmaker, creating albums and documentaries connected with Egyptian dance and culture. Her long-term immersion in Egypt makes her one of the most significant foreign-born artists to document and transmit Egyptian Raqs Sharqi internationally.
