Biography

Semsemah is an Algerian-born artist whose professional dance career developed largely in France and through international Egyptian-dance networks. Her work is particularly associated with modern Egyptian Raqs Sharqi while maintaining strong attention to the movement's cultural and musical roots. She became artistic director of the Sesame Association and created projects designed to present Oriental dance in theatrical and educational contexts. Her productions have included Cairo-connected performances and the **Bent El Balad** show concept. Semsemah has also co-organised festivals and taught internationally, including at events in Egypt. Her approach is recognised for combining contemporary stage presentation with a deliberate effort to preserve what she describes as the Egyptian soul of the dance.
