Ribo

Ribo is a Japanese Oriental dance artist, professional performer, and certified instructor based in Montpellier, southern France. Her artistic journey began at the age of three with classical ballet, followed by training in modern jazz, contemporary dance, ballroom, and Latin dance before discovering Egyptian Oriental dance during her university studies in New Zealand. She specializes in Raqs Sharqi and Oriental Fusion, combining traditional Egyptian dance techniques with influences from ballet, flamenco, Latin dance, and Japanese classical aesthetics. She is particularly recognized for her Japanese-Oriental Fusion performances, which incorporate elements inspired by Nihonbuyo, traditional Japanese theatrical dance, into a contemporary Oriental dance framework. Her international career includes performances and workshops in Europe and Asia, participation in Bellydance Evolution productions, and collaborations with international dancers and musicians. Ribo has received several competition awards, including first place in the Live Drum Solo category at the Tokyo International Bellydance Competition in 2020 and first place in the Professional Dancer Solo category at the Oriental Dance Meeting Contest in Spain in 2023. She has also served as an international master teacher and competition judge, sharing her approach to musicality, body awareness, fusion choreography, and stage expression. Through her work, Ribo seeks to create meaningful artistic connections between Japanese and Middle Eastern dance traditions while respecting their distinct cultural histories.
