Rachid Alexander

Rachid Alexander was born in Curaçao and developed his professional career primarily within the European and international Oriental dance community. He became one of the most widely recognised male belly dancers of his generation and has performed and taught at festivals across numerous countries. Rachid's style combines powerful technique, expressive stage presence and a clear commitment to Raqs Sharqi rather than presenting male Oriental dance as novelty entertainment. His international visibility has helped normalise the presence of male performers within a scene that is still frequently marketed almost exclusively toward women. He also works as an instructor, choreographer and competition judge, extending his influence into professional training. Rachid's career is particularly relevant for documenting the increasingly global and gender-diverse identity of twenty-first-century Oriental dance.
