Nada El Masriya

Nada El Masriya grew up in Cairo immersed in Egyptian music, dance and everyday cultural traditions. Her formal dance training began in school folklore activities and later continued through the prestigious Reda Troupe School. At Cairo University she studied law while also pursuing academic work related to Egyptian culture and dance traditions. In 2002 she emigrated to Canada and made preservation and transmission of Egyptian dance a central part of her professional work. Nada became Artistic Director and co-founder of the Egyptian Dance Academy in Toronto and has taught internationally. Her combination of native cultural experience, Reda-based training and formal interest in cultural history makes her an important Egyptian educator within the diaspora.
