Biography
Mercedes Nieto began studying Oriental dance in Hungary in 1997 after earlier experience with jazz ballet and flamenco. Her artistic focus gradually became strongly connected with Egyptian Raqs Sharqi and Arabic music. She founded the Nymph Oriental Dance Company and became the organiser of CAIRO! Fest Budapest. Nieto also produces music specifically for Oriental dancers and has taught and performed internationally for many years. Her work has helped establish Budapest as a significant European centre for Egyptian-style dance training and international festival exchange.
