Meher Malik

Meher Malik is one of the artists most responsible for bringing belly dance into mainstream public awareness in India. She spent much of her childhood in the Middle East and later returned to India, where she eventually chose dance over a conventional design career. Her appearances on major television programmes including *India's Got Talent* and *Just Dance* introduced her to audiences far beyond the existing dance community. She founded Banjara School of Dance in New Delhi and helped create a more organised professional belly-dance scene in the country. Over time her work expanded from performance and technique toward embodiment, body awareness and personal expression. Her public profile, school and media visibility make her an important pioneer in the history of belly dance in India.
