Biography
Maris Abe, known professionally as Maris, is an Estonian Oriental dancer, instructor and recording artist based in Cairo, Egypt. She began studying belly dance in Estonia in 2005 and started teaching regular classes in 2012 before taking her professional career abroad. In 2013, she joined Vanessa Show Productions in Sharm El Sheikh, performing daily Oriental dance, folklore and international dance shows. After a professional contract at Dubai's Bab Al Shams resort in 2016, she moved to Cairo, where she established herself as a working performer in Egypt's commercial Oriental dance scene. Her work in Egypt has included upscale weddings, events, discos, Nile cruises and media appearances. She became particularly recognizable through her appearance in Mostafa Shawki's 2019 music video "Maltashet El 2loub" and has also appeared in Egyptian television drama productions. Alongside performing, Maris teaches internationally and has appeared as a guest artist across Europe, the Middle East and the United States. In 2024, she released Maris of Cairo, an album of music created for her Oriental dance performances, featuring mejance, baladi, Saidi, mahraganat, classical-inspired material and tabla solo.
