About
Biography
Lulu Sabongi began her professional career in 1984 at Khan El Khalili in São Paulo and became one of the most influential teachers in Brazilian belly dance history. During the following decade she helped build an exceptionally large professional education system, with hundreds of students studying through her school. She travelled extensively to Egypt and became one of the comparatively few foreign artists invited to perform in prestigious Egyptian festival contexts during the early international festival era. Lulu eventually taught in dozens of countries and influenced several generations of Brazilian professionals. Her work later expanded strongly into online education, allowing her methodology to reach dancers beyond traditional workshops. Brazil's status as one of the world's major Oriental dance communities cannot be fully documented without including her contribution.
