Biography
Jessaiah Zuré began belly dancing in 1997 after growing up in a musical and artistically diverse environment in California. Her early teachers included Katarina Burda and later Jamila Salimpour. In 2004 she began a decade-long pattern of living and studying periodically in Istanbul, where Turkish Roman dance became a central focus of her work. She studied extensively with Reyhan Tuzsuz and also learned from professional dancers, community members and performers outside the formal studio environment. Jessaiah's teaching strongly emphasises individuality, cultural context and the difference between community dance and stylised stage imitation. Her long relationship with Turkish Roman communities makes her an important specialist for dancers seeking a deeper understanding of the form.
