Biography

Farida Fahmy was the principal female dancer and co-founder of the Reda Troupe, one of the most influential companies in Egyptian dance history. Her performances helped establish a sophisticated theatrical vocabulary inspired by Egyptian regional and social traditions. She worked closely with Mahmoud Reda during the company's most influential decades and became the visual embodiment of its female style. Fahmy later pursued academic study in dance ethnology at UCLA and has written extensively about Egyptian dance and the Reda legacy. Her work remains indispensable for understanding the difference between community traditions and their theatrical reinterpretation.
