Biography

Amera Eid began professional belly-dance training in Sydney in 1983 and became one of the most influential figures in the development of Australia's Oriental dance scene. Raised in a family with Egyptian roots, she grew up with strong exposure to Egyptian music and culture. In 1987 she founded Amera's Palace, combining a dance school, boutique and information hub at a time when specialist belly-dance resources in Australia were extremely limited. During the 1990s she spent years working professionally across Lebanon, Jordan, Egypt, the Gulf and other Middle Eastern markets. After returning to Australia she focused increasingly on teaching, mentoring and bringing major international artists to the country. More than four decades of performance, education and community building make Amera a foundational figure in Australian belly dance.
