Amani

Amani became one of the defining artists of modern Lebanese Oriental dance. From the late 1980s she consciously developed a personal theatrical approach distinct from the dominant Egyptian model. Her productions combined Oriental movement, specially arranged music, elaborate costume and narrative stage concepts. She helped establish an internationally recognisable Lebanese performance aesthetic while arguing for Oriental dance as a serious theatrical art. Her influence extends beyond performance into choreography, education and the large-scale production of Oriental dance shows.
